Eight years after his Formula 1 debut race in 2002, Mark Webber finally won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 2010. He was declared as the grand champion in the 2010 British Grand Prix after a dramatic triumph over his teammates and competitors like Hamilton and Vettel who have won the prestigious event in 2008 and 2009 and 2011 respectively.
Mark Alan Webber is a native of New South Wales, Australia who was born on the 27th of August 1976. His interest for different sports activities began at such as young age. In fact, he considers some of the famous sports personalities like Alan Prost, a former Formula One grand champion and Kevin Schwantz, a famous motorcycle race driver, as his ultimate superheroes. His career in the sports industry began when he joined motorsport and karting competitions at the age of 14 where he was recognized as the state champion in 1993.
Achievements as a Formula One Race Driver from 2002-2011
Webber had his debut F1 race at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix and his first major motorsport win at the 2009 German Grand Prix. His contract with the Williams team ended in 2006. But it opened a new opportunity for him when he signed a contract with the Red Bull in which he is still a member until now.
Mark Webber has proved his excellent driving prowess when he won as the grand champion at the 2010 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Over 105,000 fans shared with his victory when he defeated Hamilton by a 1.3 seconds lead.
Since the time he entered this industry, Webber strived hard in every competition he participates into. In 2010 season, his efforts were paid off when he garnered the top spot over his famous fervent competitors.
To date, this Australian Formula One driver holds a record of 7 wins and 30 podiums with total career points of 717.5. He is a member of the world renowned Red Bull-Renault team until the end of the 2012 season. He had been an active director of the Formula One Driver’s Union known as the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association for a quite a long period of time.
Despite his success, Webber still finds the time to engage in other outdoor sports activities like mountain biking, road cycling, rugby, tennis and fitness training. He even won in the tennis tournaments which took place in Spain. Until today, Webber continues to be an eager fan of rugby.
Silverstone Expects a Hotter and Raging Competition between Webber and Vettel
Right after his success in the 2012 British Grand Prix, Webber has expressed his dissatisfaction with his team. In fact, he said that he wouldn’t have renewed his contract with Red Bull if he had just known that he would be treated improperly and unfairly.
The rivalry between Webber and Vettel began when the former was asked not to make any move against Vettel. Webber didn’t comply with his team’s request. In the end, Webber ranked third while Vettel got the second spot.
